Companion animals do not exist only within a physical space. They live within rhythms, habits, relationships, sounds, emotional tensions and an environment that continuously influences their sense of safety and well-being. Within many inner traditions, this wider field is often approached through the concepts of the aura and energy centers — chakras. Before We Begin What do we mean by “energy” in animals? In this article, the word energy is used primarily as a symbolic and functional way of observing an animal’s balance: safety, grounding, joy, trust, connection, rest and its relationship with its environment. Cats and dogs in particular can be strongly affected by tone of voice, tension in the home, changes in routine, stress and the emotional state of the people with whom they live. This can be viewed through an energetic and symbolic lens, while also involving observable factors such as habit, environment, rhythm, perceived safety and emotional synchronisation. Stability Routine & safety Regular schedules, calm voices, predictable movements and a space where the animal knows what to expect. Environment A calm space Less tension, shouting and sudden noise can help the animal feel safer. Connection The human bond Our posture, mood and rhythm become an important part of the animal’s everyday experience. Release Movement & rest Play, movement, water, suitable nutrition and quality sleep are foundations of balance. Aura & Chakras How are energy centers approached in animals? In many energetic and spiritual systems, chakras are described as symbolic centers associated with fundamental qualities of life: survival, safety, vitality, connection, expression, perception and peace. In this article, chakras are not used as a medical model or diagnostic system. They are used as a symbolic map for observation: what has changed in behaviour? Where does insecurity appear? Where might greater stability, calm or connection be needed? Observation Changes worth paying attention to. Sudden changes in sleep or marked nighttime restlessness. Hiding, withdrawal or increased sensitivity to sounds. Excessive licking, scratching or repetitive nervous movements. New barking, meowing, whining or aggressive behaviour. Avoidance of particular areas of the home. Sudden changes in sociability, play or physical contact. Important: these changes may have entirely physical or medical causes. If they are intense, sudden or persistent, the first step should always be a veterinary assessment. Cats & Dogs Two different ways of bonding with humans. Cats Independence, boundaries & subtle observation Cats are often highly sensitive to changes in their surroundings and routine. They may be independent, yet when they form a bond, their relationship with a person can be deep. Many traditions symbolically describe them as “guardians” of space and as animals particularly responsive to subtle environmental changes. For a cat, important elements include calm, a clean environment, stable routine and respect for boundaries. Dogs Heart, bonding & social safety Dogs are highly social animals. Their bond with humans strongly affects their sense of safety, joy, attachment and experience of separation. Daily movement, play, stable routine and positive contact can significantly support regulation and stability. Emotional Synchronisation The “mirror” effect. When a strong bond exists, a companion animal may react to changes in its human. Intense stress, sadness, anger, overstimulation or constant tension alter behaviour and the emotional atmosphere of the home. An animal living beside a person in constant hyperarousal may become more vigilant. An animal living beside sadness may seek more contact. This is not about blame — it is about relationship, observation, emotional transmission and the need for safety. The 7 Main Chakras A symbolic map for observation. The following correspondences are presented as an educational and symbolic model drawn from inner traditions. They are not a veterinary or physiological map. 1. Root Area: base of spine / pelvis.Symbolises: safety, grounding, stability.Observation: fear, insecurity or increased sensitivity to noise and change. 2. Sacral Area: lower abdomen / pelvis.Symbolises: joy, play, sociability, flow.Observation: withdrawal, apathy or reduced interest in play. 3. Solar Plexus Area: upper abdomen.Symbolises: confidence, boundaries, courage.Observation: nervousness, insecurity or excessive attachment. 4. Heart Area: center of the chest.Symbolises: bonding, trust and affection.Observation: isolation, difficulty with contact or insecurity in attachment. 5. Throat Area: throat / jaw.Symbolises: communication and expression of needs.Observation: excessive vocalisation or unusual silence. 6. Third Eye Area: forehead.Symbolises: perception, instinct and alertness.Observation: confusion or excessive reaction to minor stimuli. 7. Crown Area: top of the head.Symbolises: peace, deep rest and environmental connection.Observation: difficulty relaxing or restless sleep. Energetic Hygiene 7 simple steps for a calmer home. 1. Routine Consistent times for food, sleep, walks and play. 2. Quiet time A few minutes each day without screens, noise or overstimulation. 3. Fresh air Regular ventilation and a comfortable indoor environment. 4. Safe corner A stable place where the animal can withdraw without being disturbed. 5. Calm contact Touch and play that respect the animal’s pace and boundaries. 6. Movement Daily activity suited to the species, age and health of the animal. 7. Observation Behaviour often shows when an animal needs distance, rest or more contact. Gentle Energy Care Aura clearing without pressuring the animal. Hands without touch If the animal is relaxed, slowly move your hands a few centimetres above the body without restricting or forcing it. Slow breathing Sit quietly nearby and slow your own breathing. Your calmness changes the atmosphere around the animal. A clear environment Fresh air, reduced noise and a home without constant tension. Gentle sound Soft music is generally more appropriate than loud frequencies or intense sounds. A place of safety A bed, blanket or corner where the animal can rest without interruption. Grounding touch If the animal seeks contact, slow strokes from head toward the back, always watching its reactions. What to Avoid Safety comes before every energetic practice. Smoke, incense and strong scents near the animal. Essential oils without veterinary guidance. Crystals or small objects where they can be licked or swallowed. Very loud sounds or intense frequencies. Any practice that forces the animal to remain when it wants to leave. Attributing every symptom to “energy”. Important Notice Educational and symbolic content. This article forms part of the educational, symbolic and spiritual content of the Vox Libre library of La Voie du Vide. The concepts of aura and chakras are presented within the context of energetic and inner traditions and do not constitute veterinary diagnosis. For pain, sudden behavioural changes, persistent symptoms or problems involving eating, urination, breathing, mobility or sleep, consult a veterinarian or an appropriate qualified animal-behaviour professional.
