Tarot cards are a mirror that really shows us what is happening inside us, but also in our lives.
Tarot Cards
The Tarot is a very different deck from any other deck that has ever existed. It consists of 78 Mystical Cards, 22 of which make up the Major Arcana and 56 of which make up the Minor Arcana.
You have surely read many versions of the etymology and semantics of Tarot, most believe that it comes from the Hebrew word ROTA which means Wheel or from the Latin word TORAH which means Law or Justice.
The Tarot is lost in time, and opinions vary as to its origin or who discovered it. The truth is that no one knows and can answer with certainty.
It is known, however, that in Ancient India and the Far East there were numbered cards of a mystical nature and that it has its roots in Ancient Egypt and India. The spread of the Tarot in Europe occurred in the early 14th century during the Crusades by the Knights Templar and spread throughout the world.
It is also believed that in Ancient Egypt the Tarot was part of the Book of Thoth, the Egyptian God of knowledge, mysteries and magic.
During the 19th century, the Tarot sparked a surge of interest in mysticism, the occult, and magic. During this same period, the Tarot spread to Europe, North America, and many other parts of the world. Today, it is widely used and practiced throughout the world.
The most popular Tarot deck is the one created by Arthur Edward Waite in the 19th century and illustrated by painter Pamela Coleman Smith.
The Tarot is not a simple deck of cards, it is not just designs and colors. The colors, the symbols contained in each card, the representations, the numbers, the elements of nature, and the connection to mystical systems convey the deep knowledge contained in the Tarot. The Tarot unlocks its knowledge to anyone who truly delve into it and lets themselves be free, to accept the infinite knowledge it contains.
Each card represents an archetype and a representation of life. Through the Tarot, we can see the path we are on and the energy that the future brings since the Tarot does not have the framework of space and time.
Tarot Cards do have specific meanings and interpretations, but they are also a way to help us connect with and expand our intuition, truly understand ourselves, gain self-awareness, and improve parts of ourselves. These archetypal cards can and do clearly show situations we are experiencing.
